1. What position are you running for?	Judge, King County Superior Court, Position 31

2. Why do you think Hispanics should know about the position you are running for?	The King County Superior is the state court that decides divorce, serious criminal and civil cases. The Courts are the third branch of government and have the authority to sentence people to prison terms, determine custody of children, and decide award civil judgments.
3. Why are you running for this position?	I am running for the position of Superior Court Judge because I believe that the primary duty of a judge is to resolve problems quickly, correctly and fairly. When people come before a judge, they are usually at a low point in their lives. They are entitled to a fair and impartial hearing. They are entitled to a judge who will listen carefully, apply the law and make a decision promptly. This process, if followed, ensures that people will move on with their lives or face the consequences of their actions—whatever is appropriate to the situation.
4. For the Hispanic community, what do you view to be the most important agenda items you will take action on if you get elected?	If elected, I will work hard to change the current system that forces citizens to bear the rising costs of having their day in court. Criminalizing poverty puts our most vulnerable in a downward spiral because they don’t make enough to pay the increasing and totally unrealistic financial burdens of court fees and fines. I will investigate the possibility of alternatives to bail. There are two reasons for bail. One, to make sure the arrested person will show up in court. The other is to keep dangerous people out of the public. Other states are experimenting with alternatives to bail. They should be considered here. If elected, I will make myself available to address groups on the issues of the legal system.
