Kathy Gillespie |
1. What position are you running for? |
State Representative, 18th District, Position 2, Washington State |
1. Para que posicion se postula? |
Representante Estatal, 18vo Distrito, Posicion 2 |
2. Why do you think Hispanics should know about the position you are running for? |
All citizens must be aware of who the policy makers are at the state level because the work of the Legislature has a direct impact on their lives through education policies and taxation, housing, transportation, jobs and health care. Each and every citizen is an owner of the system of government and therefore I would hope people engage and inform themselves so that they may appropriately influence state government. |
3. Why are you running for this position? |
To work for the people; to solve problems and deliver value; to safeguard taxpayer dollars; to end the gridlock in state government and challenge the business-as-usual attitude of our current representatives. They are not delivering solutions for education, transportation, jobs and more. We all deserve a representative who believes all people have value and will work for all people not just the people who agree with them. I will do that. |
4. For the Hispanic community, what do you view to be the most important agenda items you will take action on if you get elected? |
Fully funding basic education, focusing on equity in our schools; attention to job creation and workforce development through strengthened career and technical training; supporting small business owners and entrepreneurs; expanding affordable housing options for seniors, and all residents; improving transportation options and replacing I-5 bridge; working together to improve livability and protect environment for safe communities. |
5. Any additional message you wish to share with the Hispanic Voter? |
When any member of our community feels left out, disrespected and unheard, we all should be concerned because we are stronger together. As a member of the Vancouver Public Schools Board of Directors, I work to empower citizens to advocate and influence decision-makers to begin making real change that will improve the lives of regular people – not special interests. We all should expect representatives to work for us – not against us and I have demonstrated that commitment to my community. I work for you. |
